Isn't Operating Instructions the best? I devoured it deep into my first year of parenting when I was totally overwhelmed, and contradictorily, like I wasn't cut out for parenthood at all and that I couldn't imagine a more important thing that I could be doing. That I could love a creature so entirely, but also resent her so much for keeping me from sleep. Anne Lamott helped me to put it all in perspective and understand that I hadn't lost my mind.
